After a hughly successful start in 2017 the Weddin Workshops are back - but with a slight change. Workshops are now spread out over a whole month to enable you to participate in as many workshops as you would like! As workshops are confirmed their details will be added below.

Nuno Felted Scarf

DATE: Sunday 1st July
TIME: 9.30am to 4pm (includes ½ hour break for lunch)
LOCATION: Grenfell Community Hub, 88 Main Street
COST: $50 per person
FACILITATOR: Rachel Meek has been creating felt for over 25 years. She enjoys the whole process of feltmaking, selecting fibres, fabrics, colours and textures and transforming these by the addition of heat, agitation and pressure into many different felt art forms. Felt is such a wonderful medium; it can be smooth or textural, thick or thin, manipulated or moulded, wall art or wearable.
Rachel was co-editor of Felt magazine for 18 months and ran a fibre dyeing business for ten years, supplying outlets in Australia, England and the USA. Rachel has exhibited with the Canberra Region Feltmakers, Spiral Gallery (Bega), Cowra and Bathurst Art Galleries and also been awarded major prizes at shows including Royal Bathurst Show, Canberra Show, Bendigo Sheep and Wool Show and Sydney Royal Easter Show.
Rachel enjoys sharing her knowledge by teaching workshops in Art Galleries, schools, TAFE, forums and to private groups throughout Australia and New Zealand. Her classes are relaxed and students are guided and encouraged to create individual pieces.
WORKSHOP DETAILS: Enter the wonderful world of felting through fabric! Techniques of laying out superfine merino wool on a sheer silk scarf, wetting down, rubbing, rolling and throwing will be taught to transform wool fibre and silk fabric into a beautiful one-off unique scarf. Please note, felting is a physical activity, much like making pastry!

Camera Craft

DATE: Saturday 7th July
TIME: 10am to 2pm

FACILITATOR: D.A Yates is a full-time professional photographer with 12 years’ experience.
WORKSHOP DETAILS: What do you get? Delicious catering by Alice – Full Course Materials – 4 Hours of hands on in depth tuition with. What you will learn: How to Control and be the master of your camera. Take your images to a new level by using all the manual functions on your camera. An in depth understanding of shutter, aperture and iso and how you can use these to photograph under any circumstances. Learn the basics of composition and framing. For those with a genuine interest in taking their photography to a new level.

The Breath of Life for Characters

DATE: Sunday 8th July
TIME: 1.30pm to 4.30pm
LOCATION: Grenfell Community Hub, 88 Main Street
COST: $10pp or $15 for two if you bring a friend or family member
FACILITATOR: Robyn Sykes has been a published writer for more than 40 years... short stories, articles for magazines and newspapers, prize-winning bush poems. She loves sharing the experience she has gathered and seeing her workshop participants grow in confidence and skill.
Robyn is an Australian Champion bush poet and has performed her poetry in NSW, Qld, Tasmania, Victoria, Western Australia, ACT, King Island, New Zealand and Norfolk Island.  
WORKSHOP DETAILS: Join prize-winning writer and poet Robyn Sykes for a workshop to help you create characters to remember. Whether it's prose or poetry, learn how to distill the essence of your characters; how to turn characters into people who think, feel, act on emotions… people who are rational, irrational, quirky and real.

Pencil to Painting Art Class

FACILITATOR: Kay Chapman is a realist artist and teacher with many years experience. Although mostly self taught she has benefited from classes and workshops with reputable and formally trained artists and she continues to develop new techniques and skills. She has achieved competence in design, fine line script with illustration and presentation skills as a showcard and ticketwriter in promotional depts. in Sydney. She loves nature, landscape, old buildings whether magnificent heritage buildings or humble iron abodes & sheds of years past. Favourite mediums are pencil, pastel, pen & wash & acrylic. WORKSHOP DETAILS: "I have a very simple approach that works and I believe drawing skill leads to painting success." Kay is a realist artist and teacher with a lifetime of experience. She conduct art classes & workshops for all ages and levels. Students are introduced to various mediums through demonstration & soon discover & develop their own innate creativity. This workshop will have an Aussie theme 'CORRUGATED IRON, WOOD & WIRE' - The great aussie shed, magpies and chooks . Be excited!

Mosaic for All Ages

DATE: Sunday 15th July
TIME: 10am to 2pm

FACILITATOR: Catherine Bennett makes and teaches mosaic using shards from her family’s pottery studio. 
WORKSHOP DETAILS: In this workshop the unique, vibrantly coloured shards combined with pieces of imported tile will be used to decorate the surround of a mirror on a 400ml square board. Various coloured grouts will be used to complete the work. All materials will be supplied. Students are welcome to bring special shards and tiles to incorporate into their design if they wish.

Create Your Own Fascinator

DATE: Saturday 21st July
TIME: 10am to 3pm

WORKSHOP DETAILS: Learn the technique of making miniature leather roses and rose buds. Learn the technique of wiring the miniature leather flowers to a headband to make your own unique simple leather fascinator.
Suitable for beginners, no sewing experience required. Suitable for 12yrs and up.
All course materials will be provided however participants will need to bring the following: An apron, a pair of paper scissors, a pair of fabric scissors and all refreshments including lunch and drinks. Tea and coffee making facilities will be available, and we will break for lunch if you would like to purchase your lunch at nearby cafes.

Beginners Bobbin Lace

DATE: Sunday 22nd and Monday 23rd
TIME: 9.30am to 3.30pm

FACILITATOR: Sandy Taylor - teacher of textiles for over 50 years.
WORKSHOP DETAILS: Bobbin lace making is a craft that can be traced back as far as the ancient Egyptians. Throughout a large part of history bobbin lace was worth more than gold. This workshop will provide participants with a taste of how this lace is made. It is suitable for people of all ages and without any prior knowledge of bobbin lace making. If you participate in the two days you will learn the basic lace making stitch and have the opportunity to make a flower and a bookmark. Suitable for people with arthritis in their hands.
Materials List: Dressmaking pins,10-12 berry pins, scissors, a man’s hankie or fabric serviette. Some may like to bring a cushion to sit on on the chair to make them higher. If you have your own pillow and bobbins please feel free to bring them.
All threads, patterns and equipment will be supplied.

Coiling a Grass/Recycled Basket & Twining/Cord Making for a Basket

FACILITATOR: Lanny Mackenzie, experienced weaver/fibre artist (from Orange NSW).
WORKSHOP DETAILS: Friday 27th is the 'Coiling a Grass/Recycled Basket' and Sat 28th is the 'Twining/Cord Making for a Basket'. Join Lanny in exploring different basketry techniques of weaving, coiling, twining using natural & recycled materials. All workshop materials provided, please BYO lunch.

Macrame Wall Hangings

DATE: Sunday 29th July
TIME: 12noon to 4pm

FACILITATOR: Madeline Young is an Australian artist living and working in Orange, NSW. Madeline has a degree in Fine Arts and over 10 years experience of teaching art and craft workshops and classes. Madeline is a practicing artist, designer and general maker of beautiful things.
WORKSHOP DETAILS: What you'll get: thick cotton cord to complete your hanging and extra to practice the knots, a beautiful piece of wood to frame your hanging, optional feathers and coloured threads for decoration.
Learn how to make your very own unique Macrame Wall Hanging! You'll learn a few different knots and go home with your own unique, handmade wall piece! We'll be using thick cotton cord for long lasting strength and endurance.
