Gallery Exhibition - ‘A Journey Less Ordinary’

Gallery Exhibition - ‘A Journey Less Ordinary’  - Tuesday 1st March to Saturday 16th April, 2016

The Grenfell Art Gallery upcoming exhibition ‘A Journey Less Ordinary’ is a Mediterranean inspired exhibition by two artists from the Riverina, Jennifer M Forster & Karen Walsh. The clichéd holiday of a lifetime has culminated into the most remarkable body of work.

Both Karen and Jennie have dedicated their lives to art, teaching and exhibiting. Each with dreams to follow in the footsteps of the masters that they had studied, they decided on a painting holiday with their partners in Tuscany. This was the impetus for these Riverina based artists to produce a collection of artworks of various media which encompasses their artistic travels with sketchbooks in hand.

They embraced the history, architecture and the ordinary way of life of the locals and fellow artists of the region. Their vision and perspective has been informed by casting their ‘artist eyes’ on the countries and their peoples and interpreting this onto canvas.

This journey is one of an extraordinary friendship that has developed into Karen and Jennie’s second collaborative exhibition of works. ‘Art is everywhere you look’ in Italy, with the Renaissance being a major influence in their paintings’. ‘Every church is a gallery, every building was architecturally amazing and being there together, sharing the experience with another artist, painting, sketching and just plain observing has totally inspired these works’.

Both Karen and Jennie are passionate about Regional New South Wales and the promotion of art and its availability to all. Both artists teach in many Riverina towns on regular basis via weekly classes and workshops. Following on from their exhibition at Griffith Regional Art Gallery they felt honoured to present their works at Grenfell Art Gallery.

If you are a new visitors to the Grenfell Art Gallery, you will be happily surprised to find the much loved ‘painting with thread’ Grenfell Community Curtain. This treasured major work by Silvia Brind and her team of local ‘thread’ artists is on permanent display.
