by Cathie Coleman.
Cathie has lived, taught and made art at her Bittern studio on the Mornington Peninsula for many years. Cathie’s work is continually evolving, her oil paintings reflect the different aspects of her life – on the farm, her local favourite haunts – reflecting the seasons, atmospheres, sunlight and the rich environment found on the Mornington Peninsula, in particular the precious Westernport region.
Cathie works with a waxy highly coloured oil paint, and creates one-off jewellery pieces in silver, beads and leather. Having been an art teacher for many years, Cathie is always very happy to share her techniques and knowledge with visitors to her warm airy studio.
Cathie Coleman's recent paintings encompass a play of light and dark within the landscape which create an emotive response. Cathie's paintings emerge from her observation and interest in the breadth of the land around her, through a realist beginning to a landscape painting rich in feelings ,secrets, shapes, patterns and colours.
