The Grenfell Australia Day ceremony is held in Taylor Park on the corner of Middle Street and Weddin Street. The BBQ breakfast, courtesy of the Lions Club of Grenfell, starts from 8am with damper provided by the CWA and entertainment by the Grenfell Town & District Band.
The official ceremony starts at 9am and features the national anthem, flag raising, presentation of awards, bush poetry, musical entertainment and a presentation by our ambassador. The ceremony usually finishes around 10.30am.
Awards for 2019 Australia Day will be presented in the following categories:
- Citizen of the Year
- Senior Citizen of the Year
- Community Event/Organisation of the Year
- Community Achievement Awards in any category
- Achievement Award – each secondary and primary school in the Shire
- HSC Academic Award – Henry Lawson High School
Nominees will be published in the Record after the Christmas break, so keep an eye out.
NB: In case of wet weather, the Australia Day Ceremony will be held in the Soldiers Memorial Hall near the corner of Church Street and Middle Street.
Breakfast held at the park in Caragabal. We will be serving Bacon, eggs, sausages, toast and tea and coffee. Ending the day with an evening at the pub for dinner.
Quandialla / Bimbi
Australia Day - Quandialla 2019 at the Bland Hotel
Yabbie Competition: Weighing & Measuring 6pm at the Bland Hotel. Races at 8.00pm after the BBQ. Contact Geoff Edgerton for further information.
The Quandi Pool will be open from 3.30 – 8.30 Fun Novelty events. Come and have a relaxing time at the pool before the BBQ. Entry Free
Community gathering on the lawn at the Bland Hotel. The BBQ will commence directly after the official welcome. Each family is asked to please bring a salad to share. No BYO. Sponsored by the Weddin Shire and Quandialla Progress Association.
Join with friends and neighbours to celebrate Australia Day 2019
Cricket Match – Northern Tillers V Southern Silo Busters. A cricket match like no other. Cool drinks provided. If you would like to play and are old enough to walk and hold a bat please be at the ground at 8:30 to warm up and put on some sunscreen for a 9am start.
Following the game there will be a free Australia Day BBQ at the hall and the announcement of the winner for the Christmas lights competition. Please contact Jill Allen Ph. 6342 6208 if you are able to make salads for the day or assist in other ways.
