By residents (artists, stitchers, sewists) of the Weddin Shire.
To sew, by definition, is to attach by stitches, and so modern textile artists are producing garments, home décor and fibre art pieces using materials and technologies not previously seen in the textile world.
Traditional techniques are being modified by a new generation of artisans to produce textile masterpieces that will be tomorrow’s heirlooms.
Grenfell’s dedicated local artisans gather regularly to teach and learn the traditions of textile arts. Ancient methods such as English paper piecing, foundation piecing, needle turn applique, hand quilting, embroidery and wool felting are being combined with new techniques to construct the amazing pieces on show in the Art Gallery.
