2012 Event Calendar

Run by the Henry Lawson Festival in conjunction with Arts Out West, the Bathurst Theatre Company and the Grenfell Dramatic Society. Funded by the NSW Government through TAFE ArtStart and NSW Arts.

The Henry Lawson Festival in conjunction with Arts Out West, the Bathurst Theatre Company and the Grenfell Dramatics Society are thrilled to announce a series of free School Holiday Workshops. The workshops are fully funded by Arts Out West and the festival committee would like to express our sincere thanks to Zoe Rodwell of Young Arts Out West for her assistance and support in the Weddin Shire.

The workshops target 12 to 20 year olds and will be Street Theatre and Film Making workshops which will run on the 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th of January 2012.

Australia Day ceremony in Taylor Park. Rotary BBQ from 8am, ceremony starts at 9am. Entertainment will include Elly Oliver, Daniel Harvey, John Hetherington and Grenfell Town band. Grenfell’s Australia day Delegate will be Mikla Lewis. There will be two children’s competition, firstly children are encouraged to attend dressed as their favourite book character and the second competition will be to draw their favourite book character. Australia Day awards will be presented as will be the 2011 Grenfell Christmas Lights wineers. The ceremony will conclude by 10.30 before the day gets too hot.

Grenfell’s largest tourist event, the Henry Lawson Festival is one of the longest running festivals in New South Wales, with 2012 being its 55th year. A weekend full of exciting activities for every age group. From art exhibits and literature competitions, live performances of poetry and busking to the street parade and carnival activities.

Grenfell Show features old favourites including shearing competitions, yard-dog trials, tractor pull, wood chop, horses, photography, fruit, floral displays and livestock. A Footy Chook competition will be held with prizes awarded to the best decorated chicken in football team colours. If you haven't been to Grenfell, the show is an opportunity to immerse yourself in country hospitality and a day of family fun.
Adults $10, concession $5.

Only in Caragabal would you find sheep races instead of horse races. The sheep are painted different colours to stand out and any trick in the book is used to make them run fast! The day also features children's rides and live music.
Entry: $10/adult, children under 15 free
